La
Tigra Cloud Forest Park
Located just outside of Tegucigalpa, this massive cloud forest
is protected and provides most of the watershed for the city.
The park has two different entrances, one through San Juancito
and the other through El Hatillo. There are several options
for this tour, amongst which you can choose. One includes
a 4 hour hike between the two visitors center, and will allow
you to get a close look at the habitat of a cloud forest.
This option, however requires that you are in good physical
health. Remember that most of the hiking will be done at altitudes
of over 6,000 ft. A second option is to visit either visitors
center and follow the circular trails that lead from them.
In Ihis case, the El Hatillo entrance is favored, as it has
more trails. A third and last alternative is to visit the
park from the San Juancito entrance after the Reales Minas
tour. This is a perfect complement for the tour, as the visitor
center is actually situated on the old Rosario Mining Co.
installations.
