| LOCATION
Honduras is bordered in the east by Nicaragua, south by Nicaragua
and El Salvador, West by Guatemala and North by the Caribbean
Sea. It has approximately 400 miles of coastline in the Caribbean
and 78 miles in the Pacific. Honduras is located in the Central
Standard Time zone. Between the North coast and the Caribbean
Sea, You can find the Bay Islands, Roatan, Utila And Guanaja,
all of them are well known by its coral barrier reef categorized
second best in the world.
POPULATION
The total population is approximately 6 million and over 50
% live in the rural areas and more than half are less than
18 years old. The majority of the people are “mestizos”
which is a combination of white and Indians. Also many indigenous
cultures exist.
CLIMATE
The north area is hot and humid. The central area is cooler
and in the south is hot and dry. The dry season is from November
to May and the rainy from June to October.
LANGUAGE
& RELIGION
The official language is Spanish but English is widely spoken.
97% of the population is Roman Catholic. The rest is protestant.
GOVERNMENT
Honduras is a democratic republic and elections are held every
four years.
